CONTROLS & INPUT
Patient Zero is designed around mouse interaction. All core actions are performed with left click and hold.

// 03 — Detection System
DETECTION METER
The Detection Meter is the core survival mechanic. It fills as you click and as enemies remain on screen. Reach 100% and the Antivirus contains you — GAME OVER.

CLICKS RAISE DETECTION
Every click increases the detection meter. Faster clicking builds combos but also accelerates detection. Balance speed with survival.

ENEMIES DRAIN DETECTION
Antivirus agents on screen continuously increase the detection rate. Eliminate them to reduce the meter drain — but every kill spawns replacements.

STEALTH MODE
Hold the mouse button to enter Stealth Mode. Infection rate drops but detection gain drops to near zero. Use above 75% detection to survive critical moments.

REDUCE IT
Destroy enemies on screen, buy the Polymorphic upgrade (−35% detection rate), activate Stealth Mode, and reach infection milestones that grant temporary immunity windows.
// 04 — Combo System
COMBO MULTIPLIERS
Click rapidly without stopping to build COMBO streaks. Higher combos multiply your infection output and trigger visual bonus events. Missing clicks or slowing down resets the combo.
x10 — HOT COMBO
Basic multiplier tier. Visual pulse begins. Infection bonuses start accumulating.
THRESHOLD: 10 CLICKS
x25 — INSANE COMBO
Second tier. Click ring activates. Bonus particles appear on screen with each hit.
THRESHOLD: 25 CLICKS
x50 — GODLIKE COMBO
Third tier. Screen effects intensify. Major infection bonus multiplier kicks in.

x100+ — LEGENDARY
Maximum tier. Full visual explosion. Infection rate multiplied significantly. Achievements unlock at x100, x500 combo milestones.

UPGRADE SYSTEM
Spend infected systems on upgrades in the right panel. There are two categories: Meta Upgrades (repeatable, active during run) and Special Upgrades (one-time purchase, powerful bonuses).

Reduces detection rate. Essential for surviving deeper levels where enemies spawn faster and more aggressively.

Routes infection through obfuscated channels. Slows the detection gain from clicks by an additional percentage.

Deploys a distributed botnet that dramatically increases auto-infection rate. Scales with level progression.
// 06 — Enemy Types
ANTIVIRUS AGENTS
8 distinct enemy types patrol the network. Each has unique movement patterns, detection damage, HP values, and spawn rates that scale with level depth. Enemy speed and count increase every level — an agent that is easy to click at level 1 becomes a fast-moving threat by level 20.
Spawn rate formula: enemies are added progressively each level, with multiple types appearing simultaneously in later levels. Killing an enemy reduces the detection meter drain but does not prevent new spawns.

SCANNER
Lowest-threat unit. Moves in slow linear patterns, single HP, minimal detection drain per second. Manageable alone but dangerous in groups of 5+. Best eliminated passively while maintaining combo.

HEURISTIC
Erratic movement pattern, harder to click precisely. Detection damage roughly 2× Scanner. Appears from level 3 onward. Should be clicked on sight — letting two run simultaneously will spike your detection faster than clicking can offset it.

KERNEL GUARD
Displays a visible countdown timer on spawn. Kill it before time runs out or suffer an instant +20% detection surge — enough to end a run at high levels. Treat every Kernel Guard as the highest-priority target regardless of what else is on screen.
THREAT: HIGH — 70%

FIREWALL
High HP, slow speed. Unlike other agents, the Firewall continues draining your detection even while you're actively clicking it. Requires multiple hits — factor this into your click economy before committing. High XP reward on kill.
THREAT: MED — 55%
// 07 — Boss Threats
BOSS ENCOUNTERS
Four major boss threats appear at specific infection milestones. Each boss has high HP, unique movement patterns, and drops a massive infection bonus on defeat. Bosses require sustained clicking — do not switch to Stealth Mode during a boss fight or you will lose DPS and the boss will outlast your detection window.
Boss HP scales with prestige tier and level depth. On higher prestige runs, bosses appear with bonus HP. Defeating a boss also grants a brief window of reduced detection — use it to click freely and build combo.

First boss. Appears at 1,500 infected. High HP, fast movement. Drops +800 infected on defeat. Learn its movement patterns here.

Second boss. Appears at 10,000 infected. 6 HP, distinctive shield pattern. Drops +2,500 infected on defeat.

Final boss. Appears at 400,000 infected. 14 HP, fastest movement in the game. Drops +50,000 infected. The endgame threat.

// 08 — Drop System
INFECTION DROPS
Random drops appear during gameplay and reward lucky players with massive infection bonuses on each click for a limited time. Drops appear in the right panel — click any drop to inspect its details and bonus multiplier.
COMMON DROP
Most frequent rarity. Provides a small per-click infection bonus for a limited duration. Solid utility throughout the run.
RARITY: COMMON
RARE DROP
Moderate frequency. Noticeably stronger per-click bonus. Worth prioritizing when they appear mid-combo.
RARITY: RARE
EPIC DROP
Uncommon. Major infection bonus. Combining an Epic drop with a high combo multiplier creates explosive infection bursts.

LEGENDARY DROP
Extremely rare. Massive infection multiplier. The MASTER KEY is a special Legendary that triggers a unique bonus event. Unlocks the Master Key achievement.

LEVELS & PERMANENT BOOSTS
Each level lasts 2 minutes. Survive to advance. Every 10 levels reached unlocks a PERMANENT BOOST that carries into every future run forever — even after prestige.

Permanently increases the base damage of every click. Stacks multiplicatively across all future runs.

Permanently lowers the detection rate multiplier. Each bonus makes every subsequent run more survivable.

Permanently increases the passive infection generated per second. Compounds over many runs to create powerful idle income.

Unlocks access to higher-tier virus selections in the left panel, providing stronger base multipliers for your active virus.

🎯Infection milestones at 100, 800, 5,000, 30,000 and beyond trigger mid-run multiplier boosts and boss encounters.
// 10 — Prestige System
PRESTIGE & EVO POINTS
When you reach Game Over, you earn EVO points based on your run performance — the further you progress and the more you infect, the more EVO you earn. EVO points permanently multiply your base power in all future runs as a compounding Prestige Bonus.
Strategically dying with high EVO can sometimes be better than surviving — gaining a prestige tier multiplier earlier can outpace grinding a single run. Each prestige tier also unlocks a distinct visual theme that changes the game's color palette and title animation.
Important: Permanent boosts earned every 10 levels are separate from EVO — they persist independently of prestige and stack on top of the prestige multiplier. Maximizing both systems is the path to the highest global scores.

NEWCOMER
First run — base state, default visual theme. No EVO multiplier active yet. Focus on reaching level 10 to unlock your first permanent boost.

INITIATE — Prestige 1–2
Unlocks the Cyan Protocol visual theme. EVO multiplier begins compounding. Second run noticeably stronger than the first — detection management becomes more comfortable.

VETERAN — Prestige 3–5
Unlocks the Golden Epoch visual theme. At this stage permanent boosts and EVO stack meaningfully — boss kills stop being threatening and become predictable score opportunities.

ELITE HACKER — Prestige 6–10
Unlocks the Crimson Tide visual theme. Leaderboard-competitive range begins here. Combo streaks above x100 become achievable with consistent clicking. Polymorphic + Ghost Mode stacking is essential at this tier.

PHANTOM — Prestige 11–20
Unlocks the Phantom Grid visual theme. Top-tier leaderboard territory. Infection numbers reach the billions per run. The strategic early-death loop becomes the dominant progression path at this tier.

LEGEND — Prestige 21+
Unlocks the Rainbow Legend animated title theme — the ultimate prestige. Scores at this tier are in the trillions. Reserved for players who have mastered all systems simultaneously: combos, drops, boss timing, and prestige cycling.

GLOBAL COMPETITION
Patient Zero features live global leaderboards powered by IndiEleven. Create a free account from the leaderboard panel inside the game to submit your scores and compete worldwide.

TOTAL INFECTED
Your highest single-run infection count. The primary leaderboard. Combine high combo, drops, and boss kills to maximize your score.
⚡
BEST COMBO
Your highest sustained combo streak in a single run. Requires consistent fast clicking without breaks. Targets: x100, x250, x500.
🎁
DROPS COLLECTED
Lifetime total of drops collected across all runs. Rewards players who play frequently over time.
// 12 — Strategy
PRO TIPS
01Buy Polymorphic first — every run, before anything else. The −35% detection reduction is the highest value upgrade in the game and defines your survival window.
02Never stop clicking during a combo — combo multipliers are multiplicative. Dropping from x50 to x1 mid-run wastes the entire momentum you built.
03Kill Kernel Guards immediately — the +20% instant detection on expiry can end a run in seconds if multiple Kernel Guards are ignored.
04Stealth Mode is for emergency use — activate it when detection is above 75%, not as a default state. Regular clicking generates far more infection than Stealth.
05Dying on purpose can be optimal — if you have enough EVO to hit the next prestige tier, a strategic early death unlocks a permanent multiplier faster than grinding a single run.
06Boss kills are free infection — always focus the boss when it appears. The massive drop reward (+800 to +50,000) can propel you past the next milestone instantly.
07Stack permanent boosts across runs — every 10 levels earns a permanent upgrade. Reaching level 10 consistently, even in short runs, compounds power significantly over time.
08Monitor the ⚡ PROGRESS panel — check it during gameplay to see exactly which permanent boosts you've unlocked and how far you are from the next milestone.
